Well I have now updated to Linux Mint 18.1 and well worth for the eye candy, speed and ease. The new edition has certainly made a Cinnamon a nice piece of kit the advantages are it is faster than the original Linux Mint Cinnamon, the esthetic's are professional and it looks so good and makes the original version of 18 look amateur. so the advantages are in a nutshell, Speed, Esthetic's and it is solid as a rock. All of this makes it a great platform for people to ether convert to Linux...

I wish to download my collection of CD's to my PC the players I have downloaded are Rythmbox and Audacious I am not that keen on MP3 reproduction and would rather have the CD quality sound reproduction. Most of my music is Classical, Country, Folk, 1940's,50's, Big Band etc. But am not sure which ripping app to download. If any one can help me on this issue I would be most greatfull. I am running Linux Mint Cinnamon18.1 64bit.

The above statement says it all. For instance you can install Ardour on any linux distro and find information concerning the usage of it at the Arch wiki, Slakermedia, the Debian documentation, at the Centos site and many wiered and wonderful nooks and cranny's on the net....

Is anyone here using Samba as a Domain Controller? I've got the option to use this on my new NAS (although I'm having problems setting it up), but I'm considering giving it a go for our home network. It's certainly overkill, but I'd at least like to test it and see how it works.

I'd be interested to know how you thought it compares to a Windows Server based DC - can it fulfil the same roles? I'd like to be able to use roaming profiles, configure network/VPN connections, roll out software...

"Why does Linux have no viruses?"

The nature of the setup of a Linux, UNIX, BSD, or even a Mac makes having and running viruses on your system difficult to impossible. *nix operating systems are much more securely designed then Windows. Many functions in Windows can be accessed by services very easily and without a password prompt. Most Linux users can't even change the time of day on the computer without a password prompt. While at times annoying, this level of security is what...

Sorry I have not been active on the site for the last few days but I have had a problem, yes I crashed the system again, well the first serious one since downloading Mint 2 years ago which is a record for me:nod:. Luckily I have a friend who is a IT engineer who works as a manager with a ISP who I encouraged to try Linux and now runs Linux and Microsoft and he managed to help me to overcome the problems, so I am back on the run so to speak. Don't ask me what I did wrong as I couldn't begin...

The reason I have been off line for several days was my email address was hi jacked and I received thousands of emails so many it crashed my Internet suppliers servers and I had to reinstall Linux Mint Cinnamon and change my email address. I am obviously back on the run with a new address but what security measures do I need to undertake. Any advice is welcome.
