My install of Linux Mint 16 64 Bit Cinnamon was going a bit flakey on me, main prob was sporadically the whole screen would divide into pixellated squares and everything sieze up. Very occasionally the whole system would freeze and my Bit Torrent client was reporting errors and losing data.

So I carried out a fresh install. Brief system info:

Asus M5A99X EVO Motherboard; AMD FX-4 4100 Black Edition 4 Core Socket AM3+ CPU 3.6Ghz; Corsair 8Gb Memory; MSI 660 2Gb Graphics Card; Asus Xonar DG...

:(I have got fed up with Windows, why, well here is the reason why. I am fed up with constantly defragging because of slowdowns, getting paranoid over spyware viruses and Malware. Also the price of the software you need to BUY to add to the Windows operating system also the maintance programs you need to keep the dam thing running sweet and even then I find I have to do a reinstall about once a year. :cry:All costing a bomb. Yes there is some freeware out there, put there is something wrong...

:fool:Heaven help you old penguin lovers but I am having another go at Linux, I have just ordered a copy of Zorin OS 9, 64 bit. What do you recommend do I download to a 80 gig partition or download on a separate drive as I have a couple spare one 1500gb and one 1000gb if so how do accomplish this. This I am going to take it slowly:eek: Will I be able to copy my music from the Windows Media Player to Zorin about 180 gb without any trouble? Will I need to use a anti virus and if so what is...

:blush:Hi all well I have downloaded Zorin 9 32bit core and find it great but I am a bit puzzled about downloading software. I decided to use Evolution as my email client but now that I have done that how do I get it to how do I get it onto the OS so that I can use it . It shows as two files and I am guessing that to get it to work I need to do something to show as a icon so that I can click on it to register a email address so that I can use it. I find the speed of operation of Zorin is much...

:bow:I have completed a new build of hardware and software and I am pretty pleased with my self and installed Windows 8.1 but I have still have to do a dual boot with Zorin but have held off to ensure that W 8.1 is running OK. Would advise to dual boot or install Zorin on the D drive as I have another 2tb drive installed on the PC:confused:

OK i'm burning Zorin O/S ISO image to a DVD.
How do i then copy the ISO image to a USB Flash Drive to be bootable from it?
I want to run Zorin from the USB Flash Drive to test it on my Laptop.

I may have well asked this question before but i blame my age!!

Testing Zorin after downloading it & making the flash drive bootable.
Going to run it via the flash drive whilst testing and evaluating it.
And i like what i see so far, So no shouting at Bootneck, yet!!!

Once used to it am thinking of dual booting it on my old laptop?
The idea at the end is to put it on the main pc and may be going to it as the only O/S?

This thread might be a long on or very short!!!!!!!!

Intrigued by bootneck's somewhat varied experiences with Zorin I thought I'd have a look at this 'user-friendly' distro.

I must stress that this has been a very brief encounter and some minor niggles I encountered could very well be overcome had I taken time to browse dedicated forums, Zorin's own website and plain old Google.

So this is wot I dun:

Downloaded Zorin 64 Bit ISO from their website. Checked download against md5sum number - checked out ok so burnt DVD.

:DI am now a Penguin user officially, I have downloaded Linux Mint 7.1 64 bit Cinnamon LTS and everything seems OK. Now it will be the learning curve. I have removed the drive I had Windows on and therefore less likely to boot that should I get flummoxed over something. My next thing is to set up my email and Facebook accounts and then download my music:thumb:. Any advice will be much appreciated. P.S spell checker works well
